Step Back in Time and Live Like a Pioneer

Meet your instructors:

Samara has a BA in history and has been teaching various subjects to wide variety of ages for 10 years. Parker has an secondary education degree and had taught for 6 years.

During this 8-week adventure, children will discover what life was like for pioneer families and children.

Together, we will explore the work, food, skills, games, and daily routines that helped families build a life on the frontier.

Young pioneers may:

• Learn why families became pioneers
• Discover what pioneer children did each day
• Visit homestead animals and gather eggs
• Plant and care for an herb
• Churn butter and enjoy homemade bread
• Learn how food was grown, stored, and preserved
• Discover how soap was made
• Wash clothes using a washboard
• Practice sewing, mending, and caring for clothing
• Learn how the process of making clothes
• Play traditional pioneer games
• Read from Little House in the Big Woods

Every Child Builds a Pioneer Adventure Kit

Instead of making unrelated crafts, each child will create and collect useful items connected to pioneer life.

Their kit may include:

• A Pioneer Adventure Notebook
• The Little House in the Big Woods
• A canvas adventure bag
• Seeds and a wooden garden marker
• A potted herb
• Recipe cards
• Handmade soap
• A hand-sewn project
• Other useful tools and keepsakes

Each item represents a skill they practiced during the adventure.

Midday Meal Included

• Lunch will be themed – pioneer area
• We bake bread and goodies with ancient grains (Einkorn and Khorasan (Kamut))
• Use honey instead of sugar when possible

Once paid we will email you a itinerary for class and ask you to choose which class day (Tuesday or Thursday)
